Type of Cancer: Sarcoma & Bone Cancer
July’s Theme is Cooling & Centering
Our Focus is on Calm, cooling centered awareness
Â
Child's Pose
Child’s pose is a commonly offered in yoga classes as it is very grounding and soothing. The standard shape can be difficult or uncomfortable for individuals with tight hips, knees, or ankles. Try some of the below variations to give everybody the opportunity to cool and center in Child's Pose.
Always remember that the focus should be on really gentle movement with their doctor’s permission. In addition, their doctor and/or PT may have advised them of modifications as well.
Â
Floor Based Variations of Child’s Pose
Child’s Pose: Starting in tabletop, let the hips descend toward the heels while walking the hands forward. Rest the forehead on the ground. (Option to gently rock head side to side, massaging the third eye area)
If the above isn’t comfortable, try the following:
·        Bring the big toes together and widen the knees
·        Place a bolster between the knees and rest the chest and forehead on the bolster
·        Place a bolster or rolled up blanket at the crook of the knees, on the calves, or the top of your heels
·        Keep the hips over the knees and walk the hands forward (Puppy). Rest the forehead on the ground

Seated Variations of Child's Pose
Seated in chair, knees bent, feet firmly on the ground. Bring the elbows to the knees and rest the forehead on the palms of the hands.
Seated in chair, knees bent, feet firmly on the ground. Place a bolster across the lap and gently rest the forearms on the bolster.
Using two chairs: Sit on one chair; face another chair in front of you (seat side facing you) with a bolster on top of it. Hinge forward bringing the elbows, forearms, or chest to the bolster.
