Margaret (Peggy) Scranton graduated from CPF Oncology Yoga training June 14, 2026.

In her words:

I am a 500 RYT Yoga Alliance teacher with almost twenty years experience teaching many kinds of yoga at Barefoot Studio in Little Rock, Arkansas: hatha, vinyasa, yin, restorative, beginner, and 4-week and 6-week introduction to yoga series.

My journey of recovery from the stress of being a cancer caregiver began with taking an 8-week course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) which featured meditation, body scans, hatha yoga, and a variety of mindfulness practices ranging from mindful eating to mindful communication - all focusing on reducing physical and mental stress. After taking this course several times, I decided to teach MBSR so I could share these healing and restorative practices which proved to be so helpful to me. While I had taken yoga classes for decades, I wanted to take yoga teacher training to know more about how to keep my MBSR students, many of whom would have chronic pain, safe and comfortable while doing yoga. After co-teaching MBSR for several years, I shifted into only teaching yoga and on taking additional teacher training, particularly in restorative and yin yoga and yoga for digestive health. Most recently, I am taking a training in yoga Nidra, another deeply restful and healing practice.

This year, when my yoga studio was contacted about offering Oncology Yoga, I chose the Christina Phipps teacher training program to prepare to offer these classes. Now that I'm certified, I am piloting a month of yoga for oncology classes for cancer patients, survivors, and their caregivers. I am using this pilot program to gauge interest in the classes and to find out the best times/days for Barefoot to offer Oncology Yoga to our community and beyond.

I am deeply grateful to the Christina Phipps Foundation for offering teacher training that was so beneficial to me as a cancer caregiver as well as providing the means to offer specialized classes for fellow caregivers and their loved ones.
