Cervical Cancer and Yoga

Cervical Cancer develops in the cervix. This type of gynecological cancer begins with abnormal changes in healthy cells on the surface of the cervix. If left untreated, the abnormal cells may begin to grow uncontrollably, bind together and form a cancerous tumor.
Focus: Standing Strength, Balance and Grounding
Asanas: Mountain, Tree, Warrior II, Chair Pose
Poses in Chair Yoga
Chair Yoga Mountain: Seated tall with feet grounded, arms raised overhead or at sides.
Tree: One foot slides out to the side or crosses ankle over opposite knee. Block can be used to support side foot.
Warrior II: Sit wide on the chair, one leg extended to the side, arms outstretched.
Chair Pose: Seated version with core engagement and arms raised.
Standing Poses using Chair for Safety
Tree: Move to side of chair, leg closest to chair is standing leg. Offer modifications of foot on block or heel of foot against ankle.
Warrior II: Move to back of chair, turn side of body to back of chair, extend arm closest to chair and hold onto back of chair. Turn foot closest to chair pointing towards chair and bend knee, extend other arm out side body. Turn head towards back of chair.
Chair Pose: Practice rising from chair arms forward, then lower to chair with arms in airplane pose. Repeat 2 times. Helps bring strength in quads.
